Why does my question in Religion & Spirituality appear in my profile but not in questions?
Q. 3 Days ago I posted a question in Religion and Spirituality which is in my profile as an open question but is not in the R&S questions! Why?
Asked by sherlock - Thu Jan 28 06:21:05 2010 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Sometimes you find that a question gets mis-sorted and appears out of order. I use R&S a lot, sometimes I see recent questions published next to questions which are 2 or 3 days old. And yes, sometimes questions don't appear on the category lists at all, even though the question does exist as an open question and your fans will have been sent the links by email. It happens occasionally - it's a glitch. ___ Just checked out your question in R&S. I wonder if this one's been held back by the automatic censor for checking by the staff. I think the word "hypocrisy" would be listed in the lexical analysis function of the censor. Usually when this happens the question gets checked and deleted a few hours later by the staff. If you deleted it… [cont.]

Why do so many religion/spirituality questions get deleted?
Q. I've posted so many, and they don't even contain any negatives that I'm aware of, yet they get deleted so frequently. What is it with people and all the hate on the religion/spirituality forums? I just don't understand it.

A. Everyone has different views. I have learned to accept it. What one person might consider as hate, another might not. It is just the way it is.

How does your Religion/Spirituality support/contradict your Green Lifestyle?

A. Essentially, most religions have at their core similar precepts. Do onto others, take care of the world around you, love your neighbour as yourself, share your stuff... That kind of thing. Not because we are all copycats, but because those have a tendency to fulfill our needs as the social creatures that we are. We need other humans to survive, on practical, emotional, and intellectual levels. We are therefore empathetic, attempting to learn what upsets others so as to not tic them off and make them go away. It also follows that we extend that to other creatures, moving and not. So most religions are animist and communist, or some variant, or like the more patriarchal Xianity, 'guardians' of the world. Is there a religion or spirituality like this?
Q. I believe that the truly spiritual part of life is in mere conscious experience of existence, and that that is why we're here. Does any religion, spirituality or philosophy have this view?
Asked by scameter14 - Sun Sep 7 04:52:56 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. This has correspondence to some Buddhist beliefs. For instance, the Buddhists believe that personal experience is the most important factor in a person's personality. Credentials and titles matter little, unless they are backed up by an intimate familiarity with the concept. In most cases, you'd want a doctor that had performed a surgery before to perform it on you over a doctor who had just learned how to do it last night (regardless of the other skills the doctor has). The Buddhists are big on the "mere conscious experience of existence," which we call mindfulness. This is a large part of some active meditation exercises and other Buddhist practices.

I thought this was a religion/spirituality forum. Whats with all of these strange answers?
Q. I thought this was a religion/spirituality forum, yet most of the answers from people are trying to denounce religion and spirituality of any kind. Seriously, there is a science forum just around the corner there.
Asked by Jordy S - Thu Nov 12 02:20:56 2009 - - 11 Answers - 0 Comments
A. But it still involves religion, science section is for purely scientific matters. Just like I shouldn't ask a question about a cat being shot out of a cannon in the cat section but in the physics section.

Would there be less conflict here in R&S if we separated Religion & Spirituality into two different categories?
Q. Sometimes the two have little in common...Religion often seems to be at odds with Spirituality and trying corral, control, and supersede it.

A. Yes but divide them to where one is no holds barred, to ask and answer as you feel without the threat of being reported. I was thinking about this the other day. :-)

Why are there so many weird questions in the Religion & Spirituality section here?
Q. Is this the section where people with no lives all gather at? I mean, there are the legitimate questions about faith matters and religion, and there's questions regarding irreligion, and often there's troll answers on each type of question. But then there's the ones that are just WAY out there.
Asked by 9121 - Fri Jul 17 20:14:31 2009 - - 22 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I think it would be great if we had a format with only legitimate spiritual questions and those interested only in their own entertainment would switch to TV or whatever..I enjoy answering good questions but sometimes I have to pass 10 questions before I find a good one. I often wonder what kind of life many of these people have when they have so much time to devote to bashing others, being totally silly, and being as vulgar as they are able to get away with..God bless

Q. Are Atheists so childish that they cannot stand an answer that is different then theirs? And before the Atheists say we do the same to them, remember: this is the religion category

A. So silly and naive!! The most likely people to give a thumbs down or even violate are christians!! Either because they are the BAD christians that are intolerant, hate filled, bigoted persecuters of anyone who dares to think even slightly differently to themselves including their own religion!! Or, They are the GOOD christians that believe in a loving god and act like it that are appalled at the tremendous damage the BAD christians are doing to it!!

Can you good people please indulge a refugee from Religion & Spirituality?
Q. First of all my apologies if this kind of thing has been attempted before, but as far as I know none of the 'Intelligent Design' people have accepted the challenge to take their questions about evolution to the correct section. So I'm taking it upon myself to do it for them! Following is a link to one of the typical 'how do explain this then' questions we see in R&S all the time. If nothing else it should give you a good laugh to see the level of sheer ignorance running rampant among Creationists (laugh or cry, hard to know which way to go sometimes.) If you feel like trying to answer it that would be great. Or leave comments here, or both, whatever moves you. Thanks heaps guys and gals!

A. We see these questions here all the time. I'm sure that the frequency of the intensely stupid "why are there still monkeys?" question exceeds that in R&S. I added my comments. Basically this person is caught up in the idea that everything happens as a result of some "purpose" (which is why she uses terms like "desire" or "wish" or "goal"). For some people, "purpose" is everything, and the idea that things happen without purpose is unsettling. If a life form developed eyes it must have been because it had the "desire" to see. This is, of course, a path to despair. If you look to *biology* to give your life purpose, then you are in for a very sad awakening when you realize that very few things happen in nature for a "purpose". Rain… [cont.]

Why is there more Atheist in the Religion & Spirituality section than actual Religious people?
Q. I just did a head count. And it was 10 to 1. Atheist to Religious people. What does that tell you?
Asked by Byrd - Tue May 18 11:47:42 2010 - - 25 Answers - 1 Comments
A. It tells me that these people are angry at religion for some reason. Many of the people who label themselves as atheists are not atheists at all. They are just reacting to a negative religious upbringing. Having finally seen the conflicting nonsense that religion told them as a lie, they assume that everything that religion told them must be a lie too. God included. So they sort of throw the baby (God) out with the bath water (religion) Love and blessings Don

A. Both of the answers above me are correct. One points out that the difference is that anything spiritual or dealing with religion belongs to the other section, but since there is so much hate, discrimination and all that other bad stuff, many people have come to Mythology and Folklore to post their spiritual questions. It's not as aggressive here as it is over there. Even though it is supposed to be about Myths and folklore, becuase it is connected (somewhat) they decided to come over here. I've been over there but don't go too often simply because of hos every answer is ignored unless you are on one of the two sides that are in this "war". O_o Blessed Be, Shadow Storm
