The term developed country is used to describe countries that have a high level of development according to some criteria. Which criteria, and which countries are classified as being developed, is a contentious issue and is surrounded by fierce debate. Economic criteria have tended to dominate discussions. One such criterion is income per capita; countries with high gross domestic product (GDP) per capita would thus be described as developed countries. Another economic criterion is industrialization; countries in which the tertiary and quaternary sectors of industry dominate would thus be described as developed. More recently another measure, the Human Development Index, which combines with an economic measure, national income, with other measures, indices for life expectancy and education has become prominent. This criterion would define developed countries as those with a very high (HDI) rating. However, many anomalies exist when determining "developed" status by whichever measure is used.

Countries not fitting such definitions are classified as developing countries.

How can you tell whether a country is developed or developing through their exports?
Q. I have to classify all the countries and state whether they are developed or developing based on their exports of goods and services for the year 2002. What would be the average $ spent on exports and any exceptions? Thanks.

A. The WTO classifies developed and less developed countries -although it is a grey area. Try this link below -there are other links on its site too: and also this one: I know the above one is Wiki but there may be some useful stuff in there! Good luck

How come some countries are so developed and others have got nowhere?
Q. How come places like Africa are so under developed and need so much help from UK and USA and the USA and Europe have developed so well? It seems weird, especially with globalisation etc. I was thinking maybe lack of resources but then Africa has gold an diamonds. So why do you think it is?

A. Europe had plenty of natural resources that Afrika doesn't. This coupled with major competition between European tribes forced them to get smart or die at the hand of the enemy. Sure there is tribal war in Afrika but they never needed more then they have had (with the exception of now considering that European Imperial colonies of the 18th.19th and early 20th Centuries all exploited any and every natural resource that they could). Plus where Europe, Afrika and the middle east meet is one of the most diverse places ever. The amount of technology shared in the ancient times was vast. It was really European expansion of the late Renaissance (16th Century) When Spain went to the Americas that this all started. Sure there was trade in Afrika,… [cont.]

A. ~There is no average size for a 15 year old boy. You can't control how big you are, now or when you're a man. It's in your genes. The average penis, when erect, is 4.5-6 inches. Don't worry about it, your size is fine.~
