An alphabet is a standardized set of letters — basic written symbols or graphemes — each of which roughly represents a phoneme in a spoken language, either as it exists now or as it was in the past. There are other systems, such as logographies, in which each character represents a word, morpheme, or semantic unit, and syllabaries, in which each character represents a syllable. Alphabets are classified according to how they indicate vowels:

The word "alphabet" came into Middle English from the Late Latin word Alphabetum, which in turn originated in the Ancient Greek Αλφάβητος Alphabetos, from alpha and beta, the first two letters of the Greek alphabet. Alpha and beta in turn came from the first two letters of the Phoenician alphabet, and meant ox and house respectively. There are dozens of alphabets in use today, the most common being Latin, deriving from the first true alphabet, Greek. Most of them are composed of lines (linear writing); notable exceptions are Braille, fingerspelling (Sign language), and Morse code.

What is the order of the alphabet according to most often used letters?
Q. r s t l n e are the most used letters of the alphabet. I would like to have the total alphabet listed in order of most used to least used.

A. In order of most to least used in English: e t a o i n s h r d l c u m w f g y p b v k j x q z according to Wikipedia. Old-time printers used to print a nonsense phrase based on this, "Etaoin Shrdlu", when they needed to fill space on a line, and occasionally it would accidentally make it into the printed document. "R s t l n e" are only the most commonly given "freebie" letters in the final round of "Wheel of Fortune".

How to teach a toddler the spanish and english alphabet?
Q. I want to teach my son the english and spanish alphabet, should I teach him the english alphabet and then spanish? what is the best way to do it without confusing him? he speaks english.

A. Definitely don't try practicing them intermingled. The best method for most childhood learning, and even much of adult learning is too turn it into a song. It's probably best to start with the English alphabet since he speaks English and keep going through it until he has it memorized well enough to sing it on his own. At which point, you can then start introducing him to the Spanish alphabet via song. Of course displaying and pointing to the letters while singing the song is extremely useful, and should not be neglected if at all possible since it serves as both an aid to memory and as a direction of purpose.
